Manchester United are taking risks with Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire

Every player has a price, but nobody has yet matched Manchester United's valuation of either Scott McTominay or Harry Maguire.

United are not actively looking to sell either of the players during the final weeks of the transfer window, but they would sanction sales for the right price if it left them with enough time to sign adequate replacements.

West Ham have already seen separate £30million bids for both McTominay and Maguire rejected, and it remains to be seen if they will go in again before deadline day.

United are understood to value both players between the £40m and £50m mark and will look for figures towards the top end if they are to cash-in on either this summer.

There surely has to be a point of compromise, though. We are often told that signing players in real life isn't quite as straightforward as it is made to seem in videogames, but why shouldn't it be?

McTominay and Maguire are both top-flight players and important figures at the international level, though it is obvious they are not the right fit for Erik ten Hag's system.

They have both been loyal servants to the club throughout their time, yet for all their hard work and professionalism, it is quite clear that they both lack the ball retention and passing qualities for the manager's style of play.

Surely there has to come a time when United accept that it is better to just accept a fee for two squad players and reinvest the money in better-suited replacements while they still have time on their side to do so.

If not, those valuations of McTominay and Maguire will only fall in the coming year when playing time dries up and it becomes even more obvious that they are not
