Manchester Airport latest as UK airspace hit by air traffic control failure with flights across country grounded

Passengers using Manchester Airport have been warned they could face delays after UK airspace was affected by a technical fault. National Air Traffic Services (NATS), the country’s leading provider of air traffic control services, said it is experiencing a 'technical issue' and has applied traffic flow restrictions to maintain safety.

Passengers using Manchester Airport have been urged to check details of their flight before travelling although it is believed to be operating as normal for the time being. The airport said in a statement: "We are aware of a nationwide air traffic control issue that is affecting flights in and out of airports across the country.

"This may cause disruption to some flights at Manchester Airport. Please check the status of your flight and arrive at the airport at the time they advise. We will provide further updates as soon as possible."

NATS said: "We are currently experiencing a technical issue and have applied traffic flow restrictions to maintain safety. Engineers are working to find and fix the fault. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Several airlines have warned passengers to expect delays. British Airways said in a statement: “We are working closely with NATS to understand the impact of a technical issue that is affecting UK airspace and will keep our customers up to date with the latest information.”
