'I was crying all day': Mancs stuck abroad for DAYS as others have holidays cancelled in the airport amid travel 'carnage'

A mum stranded in Tenerife said she 'cried all day' while another had to tell her 'inconsolable' daughter that their holiday had been cancelled after a fault with the UK's air traffic control system.

Thousands of passengers have been left stranded after the technical fault hit on Monday (August 28), which Transport Secretary Mark Harper said was the worst incident of its kind in 'nearly a decade'. The issue started after a technical glitch meant flight plans had to be input manually by controllers.

It has since been resolved, but disruption is set to continue in the coming days with some passengers now left unable to get home due to cancelled and delayed flights. Tash Farrell, from Manchester, told the M.E.N she is stuck in Tenerife after a long weekend away to celebrate her 40th birthday.

Her easyJet flight was cancelled yesterday with no other flights available to book until next Wednesday, she said. Tash has two children at home and is desperate to get back.

Speaking this morning, she said: "We should have flown home last night at 10.30pm back to Manchester. We got a message at about 2pm yesterday to say it had changed to 6.30am this morning, then about 5pm last night they cancelled it completely."

Tash said she has had barely any help from easyJet, or from On The Beach who she booked her package holiday with. "There's just been a lack of communication", she said.

"The only communication we've had was on the app yesterday. easyJet have just said that it's not their problem."
