'This is definitely not what we had planned': Couple's flight to their Italy wedding CANCELLED amid air traffic control disruption

A couple who were due to fly from Manchester Airport to their wedding in Italy had their flight cancelled amid the air traffic control disruption.

Adam Ashall-Kelly and his fiancé Christine are due to get married in Italy on Saturday. They had a flight booked from Manchester to Verona yesterday (Monday) but this was cancelled due to the problems caused by a technical fault in the UK's air traffic control system, with the couple now having to fly from Birmingham on Wednesday instead.

The pair were due to sign legal documents tomorrow ahead of their wedding. Speaking to BBC Radio 4, Adam said: "This is definitely not what we had planned, obviously you prepare for these things as far in advance as you possibly can do and things outside of your control take control of what we can do.

"We actually needed to be there for tomorrow to sign some legal documents at the town hall and actually to make the wedding official, but unfortunately we're now not due to fly til Wednesday evening and that is to Milan. We're now having to arrange for transport from Milan to get us to Lake Garda in order for us to attend if we can."

Adam added: "We had six other people who were going to travel with us yesterday, four were able to arrange flights from Birmingham today rather than Manchester and two are due to fly with us on Wednesday. There was quite a lot of panic at the airport when flights were being cancelled and everyone was trying to rebook what they could find as quickly as they could find it to get to different places."
