Man Utd and Cristiano Ronaldo saga 'could continue' at Old Trafford
Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo could still agitate for a move away from Old Trafford even though the transfer window has now closed, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The Portuguese forward only returned to the Red Devils last year, but he was heavily linked with sealing his exit before Thursday’s 11pm deadline.
Ronaldo asked Manchester United to be allowed to move onto pastures new if a satisfactory offer was lodged during the summer transfer window due to his wish to compete in this season’s Champions League.
Although he has remained at Old Trafford, super agent Jorge Mendes attempted to broker a late deal and – according to Sky Sports – looked to do business with Napoli.
The report suggests Mendes went to the Serie A giants with the proposal of Ronaldo moving there and Manchester United buying their 23-cap Nigeria international Victor Osimhen, but a move failed to materialise.
He also held a meeting with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly earlier in the transfer window, where the possibility of a switch to Stamford Bridge was discussed.
Although Mendes returned to west London to investigate whether a transfer would be possible with the deadline looming, the talks did not pay off.
While Ronaldo has remained on Manchester United’s books, Jones has hinted that the saga revolving around the former Real Madrid man’s future could rumble on.
The transfer insider has refused to rule out the possibility of the 37-year-old continuing to seek a move away from Old Trafford ahead of the winter window.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “We’ll have to wait and see on the Ronaldo situation.
“Although he has stayed, I can see that the story could somehow still continue beyond the transfer window.”
