Man United great Wayne Rooney has already revealed 'dream' job amid Premier League links

Wayne Rooney has previously admitted it would be a 'dream' to manage Manchester United someday.

Rooney is currently in charge of DC United in the MLS where he will be looking for an improvement in his first full season in charge after finishing bottom of the Eastern Conference last term. He had previously won plaudits for his time at Derby County as the Rams were only narrowly relegated to the Championship despite a 21-point deduction and transfer embargo.

The 37-year-old is, of course, idolised by United supporters after a superb spell at the club as a player which saw him score 253 goals in as well as winning 16 major honours. He was recently linked with a return to the Premier League to take over as Everton manager.

Rooney joined United from Everton in 2004 after bursting onto the scene as a teenager. Everton opted to employ Sean Dyche as Frank Lampard's replacement.

Speaking to CNN previously - via Daily Express - Rooney acknowledged that he still has plenty to learn in the world of management but admitted managing either United or Everton would be a dream come true.

"Obviously, Everton and Manchester United are the two clubs who are really close to my heart so to manage one of the two would be a dream," he said.

"I'm still gaining a lot of experience from what I'm doing. You want to learn, and I want to go into Everton or Manchester United, I want to go in there and be able to give the best version of me.

"I'd be naive to say, 'I'm going to go and manage Manchester United in the next year or so'. For me, it's about putting the work in and developing myself and if I do that and I do it in the right way, then I feel these jobs, these
