Man United can finally complete Viktor Gyokeres transfer once £120m deals are done
The start of July is the start of a new period in the summer transfer window as the new accounting period for Premier League clubs refreshes. It means that from the start of next month, Manchester United can get their transfer business back on track.
Ruben Amorim's men have already signed Matheus Cunhu from Wolves for a deal worth £62.5million. United are also in talks with Brentford to sign Bryan Mbeumo after failing with two bids.
An improved offer in excess of £60m fell short of the Bees' valuation for the forward and talks are understood to be continuing to find a compromise. The feeling is that Mbeumo wants to join United and in a dream scenario, the 25-year-old will be part of the Reds' squad that flies to the United States.
Now, with the transfer window entering a crucial period, United are expected to up the ante in their business and further bolster Amorim's team. The start of July is the start of a new accounting period for Premier League clubs for the 2025/26 season. It's all about Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR) and the new month means clubs, traditionally, spend their transfer kitty at the start of the accounting period to offset their overall balance for the year.
Liverpool and Manchester City have both spent millions on improving their team in June. However, minus a small number of deals here and there, the majority of the Premier League are set to activate their transfer plans this month.
The biggest proof of that is Chelsea. Their participation in the Club World Cup meant they decided to activate Liam Delap's £30m release clause earlier this month but Enzo Maresca has moved quickly in lining up two more attacking additions in Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Joao Pedro.
Pedro, who was expected to seal a
