Man United can complete three-year transfer mission to solve Ruben Amorim problem
Manchester United find themselves in a difficult position as their squad from last season returns to Carrington for the beginning of pre-season.
The hope had been for Bryan Mbeumo to be joining them, but that deal is yet to be finalised and has, effectively, halted any other moves that United could have made. That's a particularly big problem for their recruitment team, considering that a centre-forward addition is arguably a bigger priority than another No.10.
Both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggled in the Premier League last season and there are question marks whether the former will even be at the club when the summer window ends. Viktor Gyokeres was thought to be Ruben Amorim's top target to add some fire-power to the forward line, but it is now looking more and more likely that he will be joining Arsenal.
On Tuesday morning, The Athletic shared further information on Gyokeres' switch to north London, with the news outlet claiming that there was confidence on all sides that a deal will be struck. However, they added that this deal would likely end another pursuit which United could hijack.
It is claimed that, should Gyokeres sign for Arsenal, the Gunners will not be advancing their interest in RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. Our colleagues at football.london understood that Arsenal were working on both deals simultaneously but, owing to the finances involved, it appears to be either one or the other for Mikel Arteta.
Losing out on a move to Arsenal will surely be a blow for Sesko and it is unclear whether he is still willing to play for Leipzig after they dropped out of the Champions League. While United can't offer him that, either, they could give him the opportunity to play for a club with more prestige.
