Man United receive key Marcus Rashford transfer exit 'approval' as £44.8m enquiry made

Manchester United are facing the possibility of being left red-faced with their transfer business this summer as their ongoing pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo continues to rumble on.

United's interest in the Brentford star was made public at the start of last month and after receiving the green light from the player, a deal looked set to be completed. However, with Ruben Amorim and his players back in pre-season training, Mbeumo is still a Brentford player.

Two bids have been rejected by the Bees, who are holding firm on their stance of receiving around £65million. The move has meant just Matheus Cunha has arrived at Old Trafford despite the Reds' worst season in 51 years.

They have turned their attention to Kean, who has a £44.8m release clause that expires on July 15.

MEN Sport says: "Kean isn't a striker that many United would have expected to be linked with when the transfer window opened earlier this summer. But the slow progress on other targets means an alternative may be signed.

"His release clause presents a decent deal to be had for the Reds. His goal record last season for Fiorentina is exactly what Amorim needs next season. However, many teams have missed out on targets due to the money put on the table by Saudi Arabia and Kean could be the latest example."
