Man dies following crash near Manchester Airport

A pensioner died after crashing his car outside Manchester Airport in the early hours of today (Saturday). Police say the 79-year-old is believed to have 'suffered a medical episode' before crashing into barriers.

The smash happened on Palma Avenue, near the Terminal 2 multi-storey car park. The driver crashed into the roundabout known as Flag Island.

Paramedics were called to the scene, but the man died a short time later in hospital. His next of kin have been informed.

There were no other vehicles involved. Officers from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the crash, to come forward.
