Man City squad numbers available for Matheus Nunes after transfer fee agreed

Manchester City are closing in on making Matheus Nunes their fourth signing of the summer.

The Manchester Evening News understands City have reached a verbal agreement with Wolves for the transfer of the midfielder as Pep Guardiola looks to bolster his ranks following Kevin De Bruyne's injury.

After seeing a bid rejected last week, City returned with a £47m offer which includes youngster Tommy Doyle heading in the opposite direction. The academy graduate will move on an initial loan with an option to buy.

There are no add-ons included in the deal and the transfer will have to be officially formalised with Wolves before personal terms and a medical can be arranged. However, the transfer is expected to be completed before Friday's deadline.

Nunes will follow Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol and Jeremy Doku to the Etihad this summer and here are the squad numbers currently available to him:

12 - The No.12 has traditionally been worn by back-up goalkeepers at City but has been taken by forward-thinking players as well. Darius Vassell, Scott Sinclair and Andrey Kanchelskis have all donned the jersey and it was last worn by Angelino in 2019.

14 - No.14 has just become available again at City for the first time since January 2018 following Aymeric Laporte's move to Al-Nassr. It has been worn by a defensive-midfielder in Javi Garcia in the past but is usually taken by strikers such as Wilfried Bony, Roque Santa Cruz and Jo.

15 - No one has opted to take No.15 since it was last worn by Eliaquim Mangala in 2019. The number counts Alf-Inge Haaland, Sylvain Distin and Martin Petrov among its former occupiers.

22 - The No.22 has become available again
