Man City receive double injury boost for Nottingham Forest fixture

Pep Guardiola finally has some positive injury news to share as two Manchester City stars are nearing a return on the eve of the Premier League fixture with Nottingham Forest.

Bernardo Silva was substituted with an apparent injury in the Champions League win over Crvena Zvezda on Tuesday, with Guardiola saying the Portuguese would be out for the "next games". City were without Mateo Kovacic, John Stones, Jack Grealish and long-term absentee Kevin De Bruyne, with Guardiola declaring that City are "in trouble" when it comes to their injury list.

On Wednesday, Grealish returned to training, and Guardiola has given optimistic updates on the winger, as well as Kovacic. However, Bernardo will not be available.

Speaking ahead of the Forest game, Guardiola said Grealish could feature off the bench while Kovacic could also return.

"Jack is coming back, he has trained and maybe he can play some minutes. Kova is nearly back. But now we've lost Bernardo for a few days and John and Kevin are still out."

On Bernardo, Guardiola said the winger could miss up to two weeks, while Stones remains on the sidelines. Asked why City have more injuries at the start of the season, the boss had a simple observation.

"A lot of games. Less games, less injuries," he said. "A lot of games in a row, not much rest. This is just that. We demand a lot of effort, sometimes we cannot sustain it. Jack in Sheffield suffered an incredible knock to his knee, it happens. But muscular injuries mean you miss a lot of games."
