Matheus Nunes discusses Kevin De Bruyne comparisons and why Phil Foden surprised him at Man City

Matheus Nunes put his legacy at Wolves on the line to sign for Manchester City and is determined to make the most of his chance at the Etihad now he has it.

Nunes has made a solid start to life at City, looking good on the ball, assisting a goal for Erling Haaland, and earning comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne from Pep Guardiola.

However, the confident Portugal international insists he has some way to go to earn a true comparison to De Bruyne, and made it clear he aims to become his own player at City. In the second part of an interview with Nunes (read the first part here), the midfielder spoke of his aims and ambitions for his time at City, where he can be most effective, and which player has surprised him most in training.

Born in Brazil, Nunes' journey to City has taken him via Lisbon and Wolverhampton - with an influence from Sunderland as well through his step-dad from the North East. Having caught the eye of Guardiola when City beat Sporting in 2021, Nunes was more concerned with his side's 5-0 defeat than getting ahead of himself in light of the high-profile praise and later moved to Wolves for a club-record fee.

Late in this summer's transfer window, though, City came calling and Nunes forced a move to the Etihad - the manner of which he now regrets. But having taken his contentious return to Molineux on the chin recently, Nunes is only looking at moving forward now, and is plotting his route to regular games in the City midfield.
