Man City players given brutal reality check by 'frustrated' Bernardo Silva

Bernardo Silva warned that every Manchester City player needs to reflect and improve to get the club back to winning ways.

The Blues were unbeaten in all competitions until last week, but an injury crisis caught up with them and after going out of the Carabao Cup at Tottenham they then suffered their first Premier League defeat of the campaign at Bournemouth.

That is the first time they have lost in the league in 2024 and Pep Guardiola was keen to stress that context ahead of a tricky Champions League game at a Sporting side that are smashing opponents every week in the Portuguese league. However, Silva was 'frustrated' at how City were outplayed and outfought on the south coast and does not expect the club to tolerate that happening again.

"With a full squad we’re always stronger. There is no denying that," he said. "We have unbelievable players missing; we couldn’t count on Kevin, Rodri [is out] for the season, many others who have been out.

"But also I don’t like to find excuses. This club was never about that. Kevin was injured for six or seven months [in the 2018/19 season] and we won the league. We always managed. Perform well individually and do your work.

"We don't choose competitions but we accept the [Tottenham] defeat. Bournemouth was much more frustrating for me personally because it's our main competition, the one we focus on more in the beginning of the season and they were just better than us. That's most frustrating.
