Man City great Yaya Toure on Premier League Hall of Fame shortlist

Yaya Toure is looking to become the latest former Manchester City player to be added to the Premier League Hall of Fame - but faces stiff competition.

Toure played 316 times for City between 2010 and 2018, winning three Premier League titles, and scoring 82 goals. He is fondly remembered by fans for his direct play and trademark runs from midfield.

Now, the Premier League have recognised his contributions by shortlisting him in a list of 15 players to join the Hall of Fame. However, only three will be selected from a fan vote, and he is joined on the list by some Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea legends.

Earlier this week, Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger were added to the Hall of Fame, and now the 2023 shortlist has been revealed to join the likes of Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero already inducted. Other former City players already on the list include Frank Lampard, Peter Schmeichel and Patrick Vieira.

Now, Toure hopes to become the next name, following in Kompany and Aguero's footsteps as players who only played for City while in the Premier League.

If the Ivorian is to be successful, though, he will have to finish in the top three of a list that includes Ashley Cole, Gary Neville, Michael Owen, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Petr Cech, John Terry and Tony Adams.

Former City strikers Andrew Cole and Robbie Fowler are also on the shortlist, alongside Jermain Defoe, Les Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Sol Campbell.

Fans can vote here for Toure, and have until Monday April 10.
