Man City handed Premier League title opportunity by Arsenal vs Chelsea fixture switch

Manchester City have been handed the chance to pile the pressure on title rivals Arsenal.

The Blues currently trail the league leaders by six points heading into the final weeks of the season and faced the prospect of losing further ground even if they defeat the Gunners this month given the two teams' respective fixture lists.

Pep Guardiola's side have a game in hand, with the match against Brighton yet to be arranged, and currently boast a goal difference advantage of five. But their involvement in the FA Cup means Mikel Arteta's men have the prospect of getting points on the board by playing extra top flight fixtures this month while City are occupied elsewhere.

But the rearrangement of Arsenal's home game with Chelsea has levelled the April playing field. The match was scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 29 but has now been pushed back four days to Tuesday, May 2.

The Gunners were due to play four matches by April 29, including the one against City at the Eithad. Guardiola's men, meanwhile, play three times over the same period. It had meant even a win for the Blues in that top of the table clash wouldn't be enough to bring the deficit down past six points if Arsenal won their other matches.

But now Arsenal's game with Chelsea has been pushed back, it opens the prospect of City piling the pressure on the Gunners, without a league title since 2004, ahead of the final month. Guardiola's side play first this weekend and, after they break for the FA Cup, then welcome Arsenal to the Etihad before visiting Fulham.
