Man City given injury boost for Ipswich amid Rodri update and Ilkay Gundogan wait

Savinho is in contention to feature for Manchester City against Ipswich Town but Rodri remains a major doubt.

Savinho made his full City debut against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the opening game of the Premier League season but picked up a knee injury in the first half. He was replaced by Phil Foden at the break but has been back in training and could play.

City are also waiting on Premier League confirmation that Ilkay Gundogan can feature having re-signed the midfielder from Barcelona. It would be a second debut for the popular midfielder should he be involved.

Foden, John Stones and Kyle Walker were named on the bench against Chelsea after returning to training late following an extended break after Euro 2024. All three are in contention to start having undergone two weeks of training.

On Savinho, Guardiola said: "Yeah feels better, I don’t think he is completely top, but part of the training and we will see today and tomorrow what we want to do with him."

Key midfielder Rodri was absent from the squad at Chelsea due to a hamstring injury and is a major doubt for Saturday. "He’s getting there, he’s not with the group. Maybe today partial training," said Guardiola When asked to clarify whether Rodri would be fit enough to play against Ipswich, the City chief responded: "I don’t think so, but we will see today in training."
