Man City dealt Jack Grealish injury blow before Manchester United game

Jack Grealish was not included in the Manchester City squad to face Manchester United after a late issue.

Grealish has been training with the Blues all summer in an effort to kickstart his season following the heartbreak he suffered in being left out of the England squad for the European Championship. The winger played a full part in all of City's pre-season games in the United States and was expected to feature against United in the Community Shield.

However, the forward did not arrive with Pep Guardiola and his squad for the game after suffering a fitness problem. It is not yet known if the issue is serious but City sources have described the 28-year-old as 'not fully fit', and the manager could give an update over the course of the day.

Grealish's absence is the latest setback for a player who struggled to produce his best level last season. Guardiola praised the player's commitment and attitude in pre-season when asked about him ahead of the United game.

"What I’ve seen so far here, one week in the pre-season on tour, I loved it. I don’t care how he performs, it’s every session his commitment and his trying, against Barcelona he made five or six shots, he was aggressive with the ball, that’s all, after that, his quality will do the rest," he said.

"I know he’ll be a father soon and we’re so happy for that. All I ask of the players is that - you like to play football, yes, so play.
