Man City can do something they haven't managed in 126 years at Wolves

Manchester City have never won their first seven games in the Premier League, but would make it 21 points from 21 with victory at Wolves this weekend. That would be only the second time they have done it in their history, matching the feat from 126 years ago in the second tier - back in 1897.

Only two sides have managed to win their first seven in the Premier League, and both went on to win the Premier League season. Chelsea did it in 2005-06, and Liverpool raced clear of City in 2019/20 and would never be caught. As City chase a fourth-straight title, they will be boosted by recording a best-ever start under Pep Guardiola.

The more City can keep winning without their high-profile absentees, the stronger they will be when the likes of John Stones, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne return. The fixture list has been relatively kind to City so far and they could extend their lead further if Liverpool drop points at Tottenham, so the Blues need to take advantage.

Nunes' return

Matheus Nunes moved to build bridges this week ahead of his return to Wolves for the first time since his exit in the summer. Nunes stayed away from training to try and ensure his transfer to City went through, and has apologised for any upset caused to Wolves fans for how his spell ended.

That may help temper the reception he can expect at Molineux, but he will still expect to be the pantomime villain on Saturday. "I hope he can be strong," said Pep Guardiola on Friday.
