Major road closed with emergency services on scene after crash

A major Manchester road has been taped off this afternoon and a woman rushed to hospital following a collision.

Emergency services were called to Charlestown Road in Blackley at around 4:25pm on Wednesday (September 11) following reports of a road traffic collision between a vehicle and a lamp post.

A woman was rescued from the car before being rushed to hospital with 'minor injuries'. Nobody else was injured in the crash.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said they were called at 4:40pm to Rochdale Road after "a car crashed into a lamppost."

Two fire engines from Manchester Central and Broughton attended the scene along with the Enhanced Rescue Unit from Ashton. There was one woman in the car, who was "rescued by firefighters" before handed over to the care of paramedics, they added.

GMP confirmed a woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries 'as a precaution'.

The road remains closed as officers work to clear the crash, with significant traffic in the area.
