Major M4 queues at Bridgend with motorway shut one way – live updates

There is heavy traffic on the M4 after a car hit the central reservation near Bridgend. It happened at around 2.30pm on Monday between junction 36 for the A4061 near Bridgend and Sarn and junction 37 near Pyle and Porthcawl.

All traffic was initially held which caused long tailbacks according to traffic information service Inrix. Traffic Wales advised drivers to find alternative routes with major disruption expected for several hours. The M4 is now closed westbound and is set to remain shut "for some time" while delays are anticipated on the eastbound carriageway.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: "At 2.30pm today emergency services were called to a serious road traffic collision on the M4 westbound between junction 36 and junction 37 after a car collided with the central reservation. The road has been shut westbound and delays are expected eastbound. The motorway is due to remain closed for some time. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes."

The incident is the second in the area on the M4 today with several hours of earlier disruption coming to an end shortly before 3pm.
