Maidstone United manager George Elokobi says success can only be achieved by using his squad after starting Mo Faal at Torquay

George Elokobi feels Maidstone will only achieve success by making full use of their squad.

Stones boss Elokobi named returning striker Mo Faal in the starting XI at Torquay last weekend.

And that meant Deon Moore - a virtual ever-present this season - had to settle for a place on the bench.

Moore has been a focal point of Maidstone’s attack, a tireless worker who holds the ball up and brings others into play.

The decision to go with Faal, who rejoined the club on an 18-month deal earlier this month, was nothing against Moore, who was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw.

Moore was back with a bang on Tuesday night, scoring a hat-trick in a 4-0 Kent Senior Cup semi-final win over Ebbsfleet, taking him to eight goals for the season.

“Everyone has their roles and responsibilities across the squad,” said Elokobi, speaking before the Fleet cup tie.

“Deon Moore has been superb for us. He might be slightly disappointed to miss out (at Torquay) but he’s played nearly every single game for us this season and when you have someone like Mo coming in, it gives us a chance to rest one or two players.

“We’ve rejuvenated Jephte Tanga, where he’s had his time out and rested, John Gilbert the same, Sam Corne and George Fowler as well. They’ve all had time out of the side.

“We’ve spoken to the boys and it’s about togetherness.

“Show me a club that wins a league or does something throughout the season, ie, being in the play-offs or getting promoted, that doesn’t utilise the entire squad.

“You have to use the squad, you have to have the right balance and make sure you go into games based on how the opposition plays as well.

“You have to make sure you have your strengths and nullify the opposition’s strengths as well.
