Maidstone United manager George Elokobi’s verdict after 4-1 National League South victory at Slough Town
George Elokobi said Maidstone were terrific in their win at Slough - and there’s plenty more to come.
The Stones moved up to sixth in National League South with Saturday’s 4-1 success in Berkshire.
John Gilbert scored twice against his former club, and Antony Papadopoulos and Jephte Tanga also struck as United continued their flying form.
Five league games in October have yielded four wins and a draw and performances are improving all the time, as highlighted by their dominance at Arbour Park.
“It was a terrific performance. The team won the game today, so all credit to the group,” said Stones boss Elokobi.
“We knew we were coming to a very difficult place, it always has been, but today was about making sure we get the right balance between in possession and out of possession.
“It’s about being ruthless and when we do create those chances, which we are at the moment, it’s about making sure the players are confident.
“I thought John Gilbert was superb, in his finishing and also his all-round game, and it’s not just him, it’s the front five.”
Tanga provided two assists from the left wing before completing the scoring with his second goal in a week.
And Papadopoulos was involved in the build-up for Gilbert’s double and drilled home his first goal since rejoining on loan from Crawley as Maidstone used their wide players to great effect.

“I’m really excited for Jephte,” said Elokobi.
“Everyone is beginning to understand their roles and responsibilities now, what sort of areas to pick out in possession to hurt teams, and he’s listened.
“He’s getting in the right areas but also being confident on the ball, taking people on, being creative and he’s playing with lots of confidence.
