Dover Athletic boss Jake Leberl on 4-1 National League South victory against nine-man Enfield Town that ends 11-match winless streak
Manager Jake Leberl insists Dover are back on track after they ended their lengthy winless run at home to nine-man Enfield on Saturday.
Defender Harrison Sodje, two-goal midfielder Alfie Matthews and fit-again substitute Ruben Soares-Junior did the damage after the restart as Whites ran out 4-1 National League South winners against Gavin Macpherson’s men, who had skipper Adam Thompson and Ruaridh Donaldson dismissed in either half.
It had been 11 matches in total - 10 in the league - since Leberl’s team last tasted victory, 2-1 at Farnborough on September 6.
Leberl, whose men had drawn 1-1 at Horsham on Tuesday, said: “We started to get to a point where we needed to pick up a win - more for confidence than anything else.
“Obviously, noises were starting to sneak in a little bit. It’s really pleasing and important for us to get the win, especially in front of our home crowd.
“I felt we did relatively well at Horsham and that was a turning point. There’s been bits going on and it’s been quite a difficult few weeks. Obviously, when you’re not winning games of football, it magnifies that.
“It was really important to get the win. I’m really pleased for everyone. I do feel we’re back on track.
“It was a really difficult game, with us conceding early again.”
Goalkeeper and captain Mitch Walker made a magnificent save for Dover from a Cian Dillon header to prevent the London club from doubling their lead shortly before half-time despite their numerical disadvantage.
“That’s what Mitch does,” said Leberl.
“He’s always done that. He produces those moments and they’re really important for us.
