Maidstone United manager George Elokobi jokes about Marc White as bogey team Dorking visit Gallagher Stadium | Co-owner Oliver Ash offers takeover update as investment groups show ‘serious interest’

George Elokobi has kept his sense of humour as Maidstone prepare to face bogey side and National League South leaders Dorking.

The Stones have never won a league game in 10 attempts against Wanderers since first meeting in 2019, with just a solitary FA Trophy success under their belt.

Dorking, who are five points clear at the top after beating Hornchurch on Tuesday, continued their hold over United with a 3-1 success at Meadowbank last November.

Wanderers manager Marc White could be in trouble if Maidstone lose again at the Gallagher Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

“I think if I don’t beat Marc White this time, I’m going to beat him off the pitch!” joked Stones boss Elokobi, whose side drew 1-1 at Chelmsford on Monday.

“No, I love Marc White. It’s an important game. They’re a good side, I think they’re league leaders by right because they’ve been very consistent.

“We need to take a leaf out of their book and ensure we can stay consistent with our performance levels and results and try to pick up maximum points.

“It’s going to be a good game and the boys will be ready to go out and perform.

“When that game comes, they will know everything they need to know about Dorking.”

Maidstone pipped Dorking to the National League South title in 2022 but even then lost both league meetings.

Elokobi isn’t one to dwell on the past but the November defeat is still fresh in his mind.

“You’ve got to look at the context of the last game,” he said.

“I don’t like to look back but the last game we conceded some very sloppy goals and we didn’t defend our box properly.

“We were hesitant and we had an off-day, so I’m hoping this time the players enjoy rubbing shoulders with Dorking, who are at the moment league leaders.
