Maidstone United manager Craig Fagan picks George Fowler as his new skipper, while Ryan Hanson, Ken Charles and Taylor Foran are named vice-captains

Maidstone United manager Craig Fagan has named his four-man captaincy team.

Defender George Fowler, the Stones’ longest-serving player, has been named skipper at the Gallagher Stadium.

Fowler, who was vice-captain last season, steps up following Sam Corne’s summer move to Tonbridge.

Fagan has also named three vice-captains for his first season in charge of the National League South club.

They are midfielder Ryan Hanson, striker Ken Charles and Fowler’s defensive partner, Taylor Foran.

“The captain will be Fowler,” said Fagan.

“He knows Maidstone, he knows the club, he knows how I work and he can push that to everybody in terms of the way we do things.

“I’ve gone for Ryan Hanson, Ken Charles and Taylor Foran as vice-captains.

“Ryan is someone I’ve worked with in the past, at Hull, and I like the way he goes about his business.

“He looks like he’s quiet but on the pitch he actually talks, with meaning, and he says the right things at the right times.

“Ken is one the fans maybe wouldn’t have thought I’d pick. He’s played at many levels and he’s got that experience and calmness about him.

“I don’t think we’ve had a forward captain for a while.

“We’ve got Fowler and Taylor defensively, we’ve got Ryan in the middle of the park and I just thought maybe someone up top, with a different opinion, would be good.

“The lads I’ve picked are good for the group.

“They’re all different, in different ways, with the way they go about their business, so as a collective it works.”

Riley Court was also in contention for a vice-captaincy role but Fagan wants the 20-year-old, who became a dad for the first time this summer, to concentrate on his football.
