Dorking Wanderers 2 Maidstone United 3 match report: Goals from Tom Leahy, Ken Charles and Riley Court gives Stones first-ever league win over Marc White’s side
Maidstone United came from a goal behind to record a first-ever league win over Dorking Wanderers.
The Stones trailed to a George Nikaj strike but Tom Leahy levelled before the break and second-half goals from Ken Charles and Riley Court put them in control.
Josh Barrett scored a late second for Dorking but United, whose only previous success over the Surrey club came in an FA Trophy tie, held on for their second - and thoroughly deserved - win of the National League South season.
After an even start, the hosts drew first blood through ex-Dover forward Nikaj midway through the first half.
Maidstone responded impressively and after levelling through Court were firmly in the ascendancy before the break, leaving Wanderers grateful for the half-time whistle.
Stones keeper Lenny Holden saved well after Josh Laqeretabua’s first-time shot flew through a crowd of players following a second-minute corner.
Defender Brennan Camp thumped over a loose ball for Dorking inside 15 minutes after a cross from the right, although Stones winger Leone Gravata appeared to be fouled in the build-up.
The Nikaj v Leo Hamblin battle was shaping up nicely down the Dorking right - both players enjoying their moments.
But it was Nikaj who came out on top as Dorking took a 24th-minute lead.
He cut inside Hamblin and while Holden saved his initial shot, the Wanderers No.9 made no mistake with the follow-up.
A goal-saving block in the six-yard box denied Charles an equaliser after Holden released Court, who exchanged passes with Gravata on a rapid counter-attack before squaring.
Soon after, Court somehow came away with the ball in midfield and teed up Leahy, whose strike from a tight angle was saved by ex-Gills keeper Glenn Morris.
