Maidstone United manager Craig Fagan says there is still a lot of development to come from in-form midfielder Riley Court

Maidstone United manager Craig Fagan knows the best of in-form midfielder Riley Court is still to come.

Court, who scored his first goal of the season in a 3-0 win at Walton & Hersham last weekend, ran the show for the Stones in their 1-1 draw with Folkestone on Tuesday night.

The 20-year-old produced another superb display for his hometown club in the No.10 role, looking dangerous on the ball, running at the Invicta defence, picking his passes and working tirelessly for the team.

Fagan was delighted with the attacking midfielder, who has gone from strength to strength since nailing down a regular spot midway through last season.

“That’s what’s needed,” said the Stones boss. “He leads by example. I think in the last two games he’s played with the right enthusiasm, not trying to do it all himself.

“He’s such an attacking threat. I’ve asked that from him, to use his experience more and not try to do it all himself, and the last two games he’s shown how good he can be.

“There’s still a lot of development to come with Riley.

“He’s nowhere near the finished article and we’ve got to remember that.

“He’s got a young baby as well, so he’ll go up and down in terms of performances but with him and the likes of the others we’ve got coming back, we can be a threat.”

Maidstone have a small squad but Fagan says no one is guaranteed a place in his starting XI.

With defender Dermi Lusala close to a return and Nana Boateng and Jayden Davis hopefully not far away - all three having suffered hamstring injuries - United will have options.

“That’s a great problem to have as a manager,” said Fagan, who takes Maidstone to Dorking on Saturday.

“You need people that can play in different positions and you need competition for places.
