M6 LIVE traffic updates as queues of 10 MILES build with lanes shut
Huge queues are building on the M6 near Wigan this morning with problems on both sides of the motorway.
On the southbound side, two lanes have been closed off due to a broken down vehicle between junction 23 and junction 22 near Ashton-in-Makerfield. According to National Highways, traffic is currently queueing for around 10 miles up to the closure.
In a post on X National Highways said: "#M6 southbound near #Ashton-in-Makerfield - between J23 and J22 2 lanes (of 3) are closed due to a broken down vehicle The vehicle is being recovered Delays of 45 minutes on the approach; 10 miles of congestion, back to J27 #Standish."

There are also two lanes shut on the northbound side of the M6 this morning due to a 'shed load'. The lanes are closed from junction 24 for Ashton-in-Makerfield to junction 25 for Bryn.
Traffic is heavy on this side of the motorway with long queues forming.
