LIVE updates as car collides with tram and Metrolink services cancelled

Emergency services raced to the scene of a collision involving a car and a Metrolink tram on Tuesday morning.

The collision happened on the A662 Ashton Road in Droylsden, Tameside, near to the Conservative club.

Firefighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were pictured at the scene, together with police and paramedics. It's not yet know whether there have been any injuries.

As a result, the Metrolink network is being hit with delays and cancellations in the Ashton-under-Lyne area of Tameside.

Metrolink said: "Due to a road traffic collision in Droylsden, there are no services operating between Ashton-Under-Lyne and Velopark.

"Tickets and passes are being accepted on the 7, 53, 76, 171, 172, 216, 219, 230 and 231 commercial bus services.

"In addition to public transport, there are several destinations on this line that can be easily reached by walking."

One witness at the scene said the collision was impacting traffic around the scene.

They said a diversion was in force and police remained on the scene.

Traffic monitoring service Inrix said: "A662 Ashton Road in both directions partially blocked, very slow traffic due to accident from Williamson Lane to Market Street."

The Manchester Evening News has contacted the fire service and police for further details.
