M56 traffic held around Manchester airport due to 'police led incident' - latest updates
The M56 has been closed around Manchester Airport due to what is being described as a 'police led incident' in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Shortly after 2am, the North West Motorway Police team tweeted that they were "getting ready to close the M56 at J5 eastbound" and "stopping traffic on westbound" prior to J4, "due to a police incident". Minutes later, National Highways tweeted: "The M56 is closed eastbound between J5 to J3 (near Manchester Airport ) due to a police led incident. More details to follow."
At 2.19am, roads and traffic monitoring service Inrix reported: "All traffic being temporarily held and queueing traffic due to police incident on M56 Eastbound from J5 (Manchester Airport) to J3 (Princess Parkway)."

National highways says:
Road users are advised to follow the solid triangle diversion symbol on road signs if heading eastbound
Road users are advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol on road signs if heading westbound
Please then follow hard signage for planned road works from junction 5 to junction 8.
On its website, National Highways said: "The M56 in Greater Manchester is closed in both directions between Junction 5 and Junction 3 (near Manchester Airport) due to a Police Led Incident.
"North West Motorway Police Group are currently on scene. National Highways Traffic Officers are en-route to assist with traffic management."
