LIVE: M56 fully closed near Manchester Airport due to vehicle fire - latest updates
A section of the M56 near Manchester Airport has been fully closed off this morning due to a vehicle fire.
All lanes are currently shut on the eastbound carriageway between junction seven for Bowdon and junction six for Wilmslow Road. One lane has also been closed on the westbound carriageway, according to Transport for Greater Manchester.
Drivers are being urged to find a different route. Delays are building up to the incident with queues of traffic pictured on motorway cameras.

A tweet posted by TfGM said: "M56 between J7 and J6. All lanes closed traveling eastbound.
"One lane closed traveling westbound. This is due to a vehicle fire.
"Seek an alternative route and allow extra time for your journey. Follow @HighwaysNWEST for updates."
Highways England said: "The #M56 is closed eastbound between J7 and J6 near #Manchester Airport due to a vehicle fire. More details to follow."

According to traffic alert service Inrix, the car set alight in the centre of the roadworks area.
All traffic is still being held.
