M56 shuts after crash

The M56 was closed this morning to allow barrier repairs to take place.

The motorway was closed on the eastbound side from junction 3, for Princess Parkway and the M60, to junction 2, for Sharston and the A560, from about 9.30am.

The closure was announced shortly before 10am on Easter Monday (April 10, 2023). National Highways had initially predicted the motorway would have to remain closed, with drivers being warned to expect diversions well into the afternoon.

However, the repairs were completed and the motorway reopened just before 11am.

In what is a somewhat surprising turn of events, as we were told this closure would be in place until the early afternoon, the road is back open again.The following has just been possted by National Highways.

The westbound slip road incident looks like it's being resolved. Inrix says recovery teams are on-site to help the stricken car.
