LIVE: M62 fully shut after 'very serious multi-vehicle crash' - latest updates

A stretch of the M62 is fully shut off this morning after a 'very serious multi-vehicle crash'.

National Highways first posted about the incident on Twitter at around 4.15am this morning (Saturday). The whole motorway was fully closed off at first between junction 10 for the Croft Interchange and junction 11 for Birchwood.

The eastbound carriageway remains closed this morning. A diversion route is in place.

Emergency services remain at the scene, with a collision investigation being carried out. National Highways said: "The M62 in Cheshire is closed eastbound between J10 Croft Interchange (Preston, Birmingham, Manchester Airport, Stockport (M56), M6) and J11 Birchwood Interchange (Warrington (E), Birchwood A574).

"The link roads from the M6 J21A northbound and southbound onto the M62 eastbound are both closed as well. This is due to a very serious multi-vehicle collision.

"Emergency services including Cheshire Police remain in attendance. A Police Collision investigation will be taking place and the road is expected to remain closed for several hours. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene providing assistance with traffic management."
