Manchester United hero Roy Keane makes ‘bizarre’ Liverpool FC admission after Arsenal draw

Manchester United icon Roy Keane has insisted that Arsenal should be pleased with a draw with Liverpool given the “bizarre” Anfield atmosphere that can influence results late on in crunch games.

The league leaders managed to secure a 2-2 draw at a ground they have struggled to gain points at in recent years, having been 2-0 up after 28 minutes. The result, though, means that if chasers Manchester City win their game in hand and beat Arsenal later this month, only goal difference will separate the sides.

Despite Liverpool’s woes this season, teams have found it hard to earn a result at Anfield with City losing there in October before United’s 7-0 dismantling in March. Keane himself played 11 times at the ground during his career and admitted that it has a unique aura that can stifle the best of teams.

Speaking on Sky Sports during punditry duty, the former midfielder unpacked why Mikel Arteta should have travelled back to London pleased with the draw.

He said: “I don’t like saying it too much obviously having played for United but there is something bizarre.

“Particularly when you’re defending and the last 15-20 minutes you’re hanging in there, Liverpool are playing into the Kop, it is extremely difficult, let me tell you. The energy that’s in the stadium, obviously the history of the club, it is very, very difficult.

“That’s why I think Arsenal should be really delighted with a point, I really do.” Keane underlined why the Gunners should be grateful for not losing the game with Aaron Ramsdale making a number of world-class saves towards the end of the match.
