M4 live updates as drivers hit with long queues and delays in bank holiday getaway

Long queues have started to form on some roads across Wales ahead of the Bank Holiday get away. Ahead of rush hour on Friday there are queues of up to 40 minutes on part of the M4 at Newport as people make the most of the long weekend. Queues have also started to form on other roads such as the A40 as holiday traffic makes its way west.

Away from the roads, flights have been cancelled as Storm Lilian sweeps across parts of the UK. There were severe delays of up to an hour on the Prince of Wales Bridge heading out of Wales during the Friday morning rush hour when high winds closed the M48 Severn Crossing.

Lilian has moved northeast but the roads remain busy, especially on the M4 around Newport. The RAC estimates 19.2 million leisure trips by car will be made over the weekend, with 3.2 million on Friday alone.
