Lyndon Dykes Scotland injury hammer blow as striker ruled OUT of Euro 2024

Lyndon Dykes is OUT of Euro 2024 after the SFA officially confirmed he will miss the tournament.

The QPR striker had to be stretchered off during a Friday training session at Lesser Hampden, sparking fears that the former Queen of the South and Livingston man wouldn’t be going to Germany as part of Steve Clarke’s 23-man squad. Now the Scottish FA have confirmed that the Aussie-born hitman’s dreams of starring in the finals has been dashed.

They didn’t go into detail on the injury, but it is significant enough for team medics to be sure that Dykes has no chance of being fit for any of Scotland’s Group A games against Germany, Switzerland or Hungary respectively. The news leaves Clarke with just two recognised strikers in Hearts’ Lawrence Shankland and Che Adams of Southampton. The Scotland boss may have some thinking to do when he comes to trim his 26-man group.

The Scotland National Team X account posted: "Following an injury in training yesterday, Lyndon Dykes has been ruled out of the squad for UEFA EURO 2024. We’re gutted for you, Lyndon, but know you’ll be back in a Scotland shirt soon. Wishing you a speedy recovery."

Dykes' injury means there are now only two names called up for the upcoming friendlies against Gibraltar and Finland who will be told they won’t be on the plane. But he may now be forced to reassess who he calls up in what positions, with four goalkeepers currently in contention.
