Louie Barry reveals Aston Villa talks before making loan debut

Louie Barry returned to first-team action for the first time since November last night as he made his League Two debut for Swindon Town.

The young striker came on at half-time in the 1-1 draw with Crawley Town and replaced injured front man Josh Davison to partner ex- Bodymoor Heath graduate Harry McKirdy up front.

Barry, 18, flashed an effort just wide not long after coming on before Swindon grabbed a late equaliser.

Prior to his debut, Barry said of his January loan move: "I'm buzzing to be fair.

"It has always been in the pipeline since I came back to Aston Villa, and I've just been waiting to get the match sharpness so I could come here as sharp as possible.

"I'm buzzing to get started.

"I watched the game against Colchester United and the style of football really matches the way that I want to play, and I just can't wait to get straight in and try and score some goals.

"I had a lot of talks with Kaine Kesler-Hayden who was here before, and he sold it and said that the lads were a perfect group to be around and the style of football is perfect for me.

"I obviously spoke to the gaffer and Ben Chorley and they said the same thing."

As for Swindon boss Ben Garner, he knows Barry from his time working at West Bromwich Albion while he was at Villa's most-recent under-23 matches casting his eye over the ex-Barcelona ace.

"I like Louie and know him historically from West Bromwich Albion," Garner said recently. He is a fantastic talent who I’ve seen a lot of."

Prior to his loan at Swindon, Barry endured a difficult spell on loan at Ipswich for the first part of the season, making just two League One appearances with both coming way back in August.
