Longsight police station LIVE: Large emergency response after 10 people exposed to 'unknown substance'

Emergency services responded to an incident at Longsight police station this afternoon after ten people were exposed to an 'unknown substance'.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a number of ambulances and fire engines on the scene, as well as police. The vehicles are stationed outside the building Grindlow Street, just off Stockport Road.

GMP said a 'suspicious item' was found, which was later found to be safe. NWAS said they treated ten people who were exposed to an 'unknown substance' but they did not require further treatment.

A GMP spokesman said: Greater Manchester Police and partner agencies have responded to a report of a suspicious item at Longsight Police Station on Grindlow Street, Manchester.

"The item was assessed and no risk has been identified. The incident has been closed, there was no threat to the wider community and enquiries are ongoing."

An NWAS spokesperson said: "“We responded to an incident at Longsight Police Station following a call at 11.40, deploying multiple resources, including our Hazardous Area Response Team and operational commanders. We have assessed around ten patients following exposure to an unknown substance, but they did not require any further treatment.”

A spokesperson for the fire service confirmed firefighters were 'assisting' on the scene earlier.
