Live: Wigan Wallgate trains stopped after person dies at railway station

All lines are closed at a Greater Manchester train station this afternoon with emergency services on the scene after a person died at a railway station.

Emergency services were called to Pemberton station just after 2pm today. A person was sadly pronounced dead when they arrived, however.

In a statement, the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Pemberton railway station at around 2.15pm today (15 March) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The incident is causing disruption to travellers in the North West. All lines at Wigan Wallgate are currently closed whilst they attend to the scene.

Trains may be cancelled or revised, with disruption is expected until 16:15, according to National Rail.

Rail replacement transport has been confirmed to run between Wigan Wallgate and Headbolt Lane to help with your journey. This will depart Wigan Wallgate at 15:30 and Headbolt Lane at 16:00.
