Livingston Women's boss hails side's displays to start maiden SWPL2 campaign

Livingston Women’s gaffer Mike Ross says he’s been impressed by his team’s displays in the early stages of the SWPL2 season.

The Lionesses picked up a share of the spoils on Sunday with a 0-0 home draw against Boroughmuir Thistle, making it four points from their first three games since promotion to the second tier.

And he insists the fact they weren’t at their best on Sunday but still found a way to pick up a result is testament to the fighting spirit within the squad.

He commented: “Overall, I think we can certainly play better than we did. I don’t think we really created too many chances or made the most of the ball in the final third but there’s still plenty to be positive about.

“Hannah Davie had a long-range effort that maybe on another day goes in and is the difference but we did defend really well.

“Folk were flinging themselves about to get key blocks in and make big tackles. We’re three games into the season, in a new league, and I think we can all be pretty happy with how we’ve adapted to the higher level.”

He added: “There wasn’t much in the game and there was maybe a bit of knowing each other too well given the amount of players we have who were recently at Boroughmuir but what I’ve got is a squad full of players who give the coaching staff and their team-mates everything. They’ve shown that they won’t leave anything out there.”

It’s a break from league duty this weekend as they travel to St Johnstone in the Sky Sports Cup - with the winner being handed a glamour tie against SWPL1 champions Glasgow City in the next round.

Ross said: “It’s going to be a very tough game against a very good side but that’s no different to the way any match is going to be this season.

“We’ll prepare for it in the right manner
