Livingston Scottish Cup win isn't a magic cure, says boss David Martindale

Livingston boss Davie Martindale says their Scottish Cup win over Raith Rovers isn't going to transform their season, but the players deserve credit for digging out the 2-1 victory.

Andrew Shinnie won but missed a penalty in the first half, but the triumph ended a run of 13 games without a win.

Goals from Jamie Brandon and Dan Mackay cancelled out Jack Hamilton's early opener for Raith to send Livi into the fifth round of the competition, but Martindale says it's not a magic cure.

"I don't think football and life works that way," said Martindale. "I don't really buy into all that, if I'm honest.

"I take it one game at a time and see where it takes us, but I do think the players have to take huge credit.

"I thought we started the game unbelievably badly, it was Motherwell-esque, nearly; 15 to 20 minutes in we go a goal behind and are lucky not to be two behind.

"But I think from that moment onwards we kept the ball, got a bit of joy down the left-hand side.

"Andrew Shinnie gets the penalty, we miss it, and at that point it would have been really easy for the players to feel sorry for themselves, especially with the run we've been on previously.

"From that minute onwards, I think the players have got to take huge credit."
