Late Doris try seals Leinster bonus win at Tigers

Leinster made it four from four in the Investec Champions Cup and guaranteed a home tie in round of 16 with a 27-10 win at Leicester.

They finish top of Pool 4 with 19 points out of a possible 20.

Leo Cullen's side now wait to find out their opponents as the group stages comes to an end tomorrow evening.

The visitors fought back from an early 10-0 deficit to take the lead, scoring two tries in either half.

Joe McCarthy and Jordan Larmour scores first-half tries and Harry Byrne kicked a penalty and a conversion to give them a 15-10 lead at the break.

Tries at the start and end of the second half, from Dan Sheehan and Caelan Doris, meant Leinster left with all five points, which could be crucial in securing home ties should they advance beyond next round.

There was little in the way of adventure in the opening exchanges as the sides felt each other out.

However, that all changed in the blink of an eye when Leicester spotted a numbers advantage off a ruck just inside the Leinster half.

Centre Dan Kelly picked from the base and had plenty of support with Larmour desperately calling for help. But it was too late and Hanro Liebenberg (below) had a simple run in; Handre Pollard converted.

That was the spark the game needed and Leinster almost responded immediately but Andrew Porter got held up over the line.

Pollard pushed the Tigers lead out to 10 in the 21st minute, punishing Sheehan’s illegal play on the scrum-half with a long-range penalty.

But Leinster soon found their footing and Byrne got the four-time champions on the board with a penalty.

Byrne was growing into the game and good play by Larmour and player of the match James Lowe forced Leicester to concede a couple of penalties.
