Neil Warnock welcomes 'winnable' Rangers or Celtic hurdle as bullish Aberdeen FC boss throws down Scottish Cup gauntlet
Bullish Neil Warnock has declared that Celtic and Rangers clash are "winnable games" for Aberdeen as he targets Scottish Cup glory.
Before the arrival of Warnock as boss, the Dons held Brendan Rodgers' Scottish Premiership leaders at Pittodrie and in the next game fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat at Ibrox as the veteran boss took charge of his first game. The 75-year-old is now feeling confident that his side can go all the way to Hampden and lift silverware before he steps down from the dugout in the summer.
The Pittodrie side go in as heavy favourites to progress to the next round of the competition as they face off against League Two side Bonnyrigg Rose. And Warnock was in confident mood as he goes in search of his first win in charge of the Scottish Premiership side. Asked about his hopes for the Scottish Cup, the Aberdeen boss said: "I'd like to win it, me, but it's alright talking about it.
"But you have seen us play against Celtic and Rangers, both winnable games really. A few years ago I would have said that they were miles ahead of us, are you with me?
"I don't see that now really. They are better than us but with the right attitude and tactically you can have a go at them."
