Liverpool might have found their next Divock Origi in transfer market

Divock Origi’s place in Liverpool history has long been assured. His Champions League heroics in 2019 took care of that, and he has also excelled at punishing the Reds’ Merseyside rivals in derby matches.

What makes his record versus Everton so remarkable is that he is often dropped into the side against them despite rarely featuring in the build-up. Origi hadn’t played in any of the previous 11 matches but was still able to deliver against the Blues last time out.

But his goal in Liverpool’s 2-0 win on Sunday may prove to be his last for the club. The Belgian is out of contract this summer and has been strongly linked with a move to AC Milan. It will not be straightforward to replace Origi with someone who can play a similar role to such a high standard.

With the attacking options open to Jurgen Klopp, it may be that the club choose not to sign a player to fill the Origi void. Unless another forward moves on this summer, it’s easy to see how Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino and Mohamed Salah can start, come off the bench or rotate out for a rest in the three positions up front.
