Liverpool: 'Frustrated' £125k-a-week star now set for Anfield exit

Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been tipped to leave the club this summer by journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 28-year-old only has just over a year remaining on his current contract, and after slipping down Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order, he could seek pastures new ahead of next term.

According to The Mirror, Premier League duo Aston Villa and West Ham United have been put on ‘red alert’ after Liverpool announced they are ‘ready to sell’ Oxlade-Chamberlain when the market reopens for business.

Villa boss Steven Gerrard is said to be a ‘long-term admirer’ of the 35-cap England international and is contemplating making a move for the midfielder.

Meanwhile, West Ham are said to have money to spend after securing European football for the second consecutive campaign and could view Oxlade-Chamberlain’s £10 million price tag as good business.

The versatile dynamo reportedly turned down the opportunity to join Newcastle United in January, but after largely watching the second half of the season from the sidelines, his time at Liverpool appears to be drawing to a close.

O’Rourke believes Liverpool and Oxlade-Chamberlain will naturally part ways this summer after a ‘tough season’ for the midfielder on Merseyside.

He told GiveMeSport: “It looks like this one’s going to be a natural parting of the ways. Oxlade-Chamberlain has just not really featured, I think, in the team since February time.

“It’s been a tough season for Oxlade-Chamberlain, who’s been fit for most of the season, but just can’t get into that team right now.”
