"There is interest" - Transfer insider drops Southampton claim on £25m ace once compared to Xavi

Southampton are interested in bringing Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks to St Mary’s this summer, says transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 26-year-old is thought to be up for sale, giving the Saints an opportunity to sign him if they can agree a fee with their Premier League rivals.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are ready to let Winks go in the upcoming transfer window.

The same outlet states that Daniel Levy will listen to offers for the Englishman and is hoping to bring in around £25m from any potential sale.

Southampton and Newcastle United have been mentioned as possible destinations for Winks, who has played over 200 games for Tottenham after coming through the club’s academy.

However, in the 2021/22 season, he made just eight starts in the Premier League under Antonio Conte.

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Southampton are indeed interested in Winks, though Tottenham’s £25m valuation could be a sticking point.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer insider said: “There’ll be some negotiating to do on that one; there’s no doubt about it. But there is interest from Southampton, so let’s see if they can find a way to do business.”

Winks certainly did not play too much football in the season that has just gone, but he would still be a superb addition to Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.

He is the kind of midfielder that is neat and tidy in possession, with the England international recording a pass success rate of 88.2% for the 2021/22 Premier League campaign, one of the highest percentages in Tottenham’s squad (via WhoScored).
