Liverpool FC ramp up pressure on Man City in dramatic late Premier League title race twist

Manchester City fans may have dared to dream for a second as the minutes ticked on at the City Ground on Saturday.

Liverpool were being held by Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, with a draw giving City the chance to take the initiative in the title race. If Jurgen Klopp's men dropped points at Forest, they would have moved two points clear of City - giving the Blues the opportunity to leapfrog them with victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

In that scenario, City would have gone to Anfield next week for their title-race showdown top of the table. With the clock approaching the 100-minute mark in Nottingham, however, Darwin Nunez scored late on to steal all three points for Liverpool and hand them a four-point lead.

That means City must beat United on Sunday to return to a point behind the leaders ahead of the trip to Merseyside.

Arsenal, a point behind City going into the weekend, travel to bottom side Sheffield United on Monday and would be expected to win. The Gunners then face Brentford next week where they could end next weekend top of the table if the result at Anfield went their way.

Earlier, John Stones told the Times that City 'can't let that happen', when the prospect of Liverpool winning four trophies this season was put to him.

City take on United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa in their next four league fixtures. Liverpool take on City, United and Brighton in that time. Arsenal face Sheffield United, Brentford and City.
