Liverpool FC 'enter race for Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips' and other transfer rumours

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is reportedly a target for Liverpool ahead of the January transfer window.

Phillips is widely expected to leave the Etihad Stadium this winter after failing to break into the starting line-up following his 2022 arrival from Leeds United. Pep Guardiola recently apologised to the 28-year-old for not playing him as frequently as he would have liked.

This admission opened the doors to speculation about Phillips with the likes of Newcastle United, Everton and Juventus linked with his signing. According to Calciomercato, Jurgen Klopp has thrown his hat into the ring at the last minute.

The Merseyside club have yet to properly replace Fabinho and Jordan Henderson so to see them mentioned alongside Phillips is unsurprising. However, Liverpool remain one of the Blues' biggest rivals in the Premier League so this could halt any interest.

It is claimed, should City have the choice, they would like to see the midfielder move to Juve instead of remaining in England. Further to this report, the Daily Mail understands the Blues could get their wish.

Phillips is reportedly open to a new experience after spending time with City and would welcome a move to Serie A. No official talks have taken place with the midfielder as of yet but Juve are working hard to bring the Englishman to the club.

However, the Old Lady continue to struggle to balance the books and so they would not be able to afford anything more than a loan at this stage. However, this is thought to suit Phillips as he hopes to gain minutes ahead of Euro 2024.
