LIVE updates: Large police presence after suspicious package found on Stretford Road, Old Trafford

There is a large police presence on Stretford Road in Old Trafford this evening. A large number of officers are at the scene and the main road is blocked off as well as multiple walkways beside the road

There are at least 5 police vehicles in attendance. The scene is right outside Old Trafford Community Academy.

The cordon is in place from junction of Clifton street.

Our reporter is currently at the scene. The Manchester Evening News has contacted Greater Manchester Police and the fire service for further details.

At around 6:45pm this evening (Wednesday 19 April), GMP were called to Stretford Road following a report that a bus passenger was refusing to pay the fare and causing some disruption.

Officers attended and discovered a suspicious item. A man has been arrested and remains in police custody.

In line with normal procedure, a scene remains in place whilst EOD assess the item.

Members of the public are asked to avoid the area, with road closures in place on Stretford Road and East Union Street.
